Come down to the Water :: A Poem

Soul Series come down to the water.jpg

This is an older poem, but one that I think many of my friends and family need today. I do. Maybe you do, too.

Come down to the water to drink
when your knees are aching with sorrow
I’ll keep everything bad away
step carefully among the stones
Come down in the moonlight
walk through the trees —find
the silver light falling across the water.
Come when you are thirsty,
come when you think you can’t come,
when the train of your thoughts is blaring its horn,
and you shy away from the noise.
There are shadows to walk through,
paths that will shelter you,
and we are all quiet here,
resting after the day.
There are friends blinking
the lights of the city
out of their eyes,
we are all tired and worn
the water is clean and cold.
Dip your face or your hands
drink deep friend,
drink deep.
