Because he loves me
When I got home on Saturday night, after a twelve hour drive (which was more like fourteen hours on the road, with the baby) and found that my superstar husband had done this:
It's the absence of clutter that you should note. He cleaned our whole cabin, from top to bottom, including all of my emergency clutter areas. I cried. I really did. I walked into the cabin, exhausted, and found it perfectly clean, with music on and candles lit. It was the most beautiful thing that I've ever seen. As if caring for our kids for a week while I was in LA wasn't enough. I know enough about Chinua to realize that this is completely and totally how he shows me he loves me. It's like being swallowed by an elephant of love.
I felt pretty inadequate, for a moment, thinking that he had managed all this so much better than I, but then he told me that he had worked on it pretty much non-stop for a week. He told me that he realized how hard it is, to keep a place like ours (little, one room, etc) clean with two little kids underfoot.
Music to a frazzled mama's ears, that kind of empathy. And loveliness to a frazzled mama's eyes, seeing a clean slate. Now all I have to do is not let the clutter overwhelm me again.
It's just the best feeling in the world, isn't it? To wake up in a clean house and start fresh.
